Lords of the Fallen

Gerlinde

The blacksmith. Upgrades weapons and sells the materials to do it — you have to free her from a cell in Pilgrim's Perch first.

Where to find Gerlinde

Moves as their questline advances — 3 quest steps across 2 places, in this order:

  1. Pilgrim's Perch
  2. Skyrest Bridge

Read from the quest-step spawners placed in the game's levels: each step of their questline is its own spawner, so this is the route rather than a single address. The files give the region, not the exact spot within it. Datamined

Questline — Save the Blacksmith, then Recover the Scattered Tablets

A Grouk blacksmith the Sentinels locked in the mines. Free her and she becomes your upgrade vendor. Sparky is the shackled creature in her cell — the Crafter from the 2014 game, whom she has effectively enslaved.

Free her early. Upgrades and rune sockets are worth far more at hour three than at hour thirty.

Run-ending mistakes

  • Hand Gerlinde the Cracked Rune Tablet before the other two or the chain stalls.
  • The final tablet decision cannot be undone and you cannot get both payoffs.
  • Killing Gerlinde removes upgrades, runesmithing and the whole quest. It also kills Sparky, whose life is bound to hers.

Where they start

A locked prison cell deep in the mines beneath Pilgrim's Perch. Follow the hammering. · Nearest vestige: Vestige of Blind Agatha

The route

  1. Pilgrim's Perch mines
Light the Vestige of Blind Agatha, take the opposite elevator down, climb the ladder and push through the cavern past nine Pilgrims.
  2. Mines, over the water
Raise the lamp to reveal a hidden staircase, then follow the path past the red growths, the balcony tunnel and the ladders.
  3. Mines
Kill the Pureblade for the Prison Cell Key.
  4. Her cell
Exhaust her dialogue, then choose to hand over the key.
  5. Skyrest Bridge
Open the elevator shortcut and return. She and Sparky are set up. She asks for three rune tablets.
  6. Fitzroy's Gorge
Cracked Rune Tablet, past the Umbral Flowerbed at the end of the path, on the ground below the ladder near the cliff edge. Give this one FIRST or she cannot socket runes at all and will refuse the others.
  7. Upper Calrath
Chipped Rune Tablet, in the house toward the Sunless Skein, down the interior stairs — activate the Stigma, then take it from the fireplace behind.
  8. Tower of Penance, upper floors
Rune Tablet, in a chest on the outer ring beside a divider wall, past the narrow beams.
  9. Skyrest
Choose who gets the last tablet. This is permanent.

The final tablet

Give it to Gerlinde

She hands you the Crafter's Essence rune, which drops a weapon or shield's weight and stat requirements to zero. Her shop expands. Sparky disappears permanently once you rest or leave Skyrest.

Reported to arrive only after an area reload, and there is a long-standing bug where it sometimes never appears.

Give it to Sparky

He breaks his manacles and you gain runesmithing at every vestige — upgrade and socket anywhere. Gerlinde's prices double permanently and she is furious.

Leaning toward Sparky? Do all your shopping at Gerlinde first. Leaning toward Gerlinde? Talk to Sparky after every tablet, because his dialogue is the only source of his backstory and he is deleted the moment you decide.

What you get

Worth knowing

  • On the Umbral ending you have to kill her with Gerlinde's Seedpod. Finish the tablets and all your upgrading first.

Steps and outcomes are confirmed in play — the game files record quest steps but not reliably what triggers them, so this is the one part of the page that is not datamined. Reward names are checked against our own item data at build time. Verified in game
