Umbral Lamp

A lamp crafted by Molhu, last of the Nohuta. Contains a strange and ravenous light which allows its chosen bearer to not only enter and manipulate Umbral, the hidden realm beyond Axiom, but even resurrect upon death.

The lamp is the one piece of equipment you never choose. It behaves like a weapon in the game files — its own stats row, its own upgrade track — but you carry exactly one and never swap it, so it lives here rather than in the weapon list.

The lamp at each level

Lamp level Eye sockets Soulflay charges Dread resistance
+0 1 (1 main) 1 —
+1 2 (1 main, 1 secondary) 2 +10%
+2 2 (1 main, 1 secondary) 3 +20%
+3 3 (1 main, 2 secondary) 3 +30%

Every figure is a total at that level, not a bonus that stacks. A fully upgraded lamp gives you 3 Soulflay charges and +30% dread resistance — not the three rows added together.

Eyes do stack on top of that. 2 eyes grant an extra Soulflay charge, added to the lamp's own maximum rather than capped by it — so a full lamp with either one socketed reaches 4: Umbral Eye of Marco the Axe (secondary socket) , Umbral Eye of Betrayed Eliard (main socket) .

And the two stack with each other, because they sit in different socket types. Umbral Eye of Betrayed Eliard in the main socket and Umbral Eye of Marco the Axe in a secondary one, on a fully upgraded lamp, is 5 Soulflay charges — the highest reachable in the game. Verified in game

Dread resistance is why the track matters beyond sockets: it buys you longer in Umbral before the reaper comes looking. The Soulflay and dread figures are confirmed against in-game readings. The socket counts come from the lamp's own curve, and one row of them is contested — see below. Verified in game

How the sockets work

One main socket and up to two secondary ones — the lamp's own socket list says so outright. The first eye you socket takes the main slot, and it applies only its main effect; its secondary effect is ignored entirely. Every other eye applies only its secondary effect. An eye is never both at once. Verified in game

That makes the two columns below genuinely separate choices rather than a package. An eye with a mediocre main effect and an excellent secondary one is a fine pick for slot two or three and a waste of the main slot, and the reverse holds just as often.

Three chisels, three upgrade levels, three sockets. The main socket is free from the start; the table above shows when each secondary opens.

One figure is contested. The lamp's curve puts the second secondary socket at +3, giving 3 in total, and a separate cap field limits secondary slots to 2 — so there is no third secondary anywhere in the data. Player notes we trust put it at +2 instead. Everything else on this page matched those notes exactly, so this one row is flagged rather than quietly resolved in our favour.

Antediluvian Chisels (3)

"An ancient tool used to create additional sockets in an Umbral lamp." All 3 are guaranteed finds behind Umbral puzzles, and none can be bought — no vendor stocks one, and both their buy and sell prices are zero. One chisel is one lamp level, and the lamp caps at +3, so finding all three is the whole upgrade track.

Numbered for this table only. The game does not number them, and nothing in the files ties any one of the three to a particular socket. Modelled

Not to be confused with runes, which go into weapons and shields. An eye will not fit a weapon and a rune will not fit the lamp — the game gives them different socket shapes.
